Trying Too Hard…. Molly Ann Wishlade
Trying Too Hard…. Molly Ann Wishlade
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
Erotic romance, I love those so requesting this book was a no brainer, from the description it sounded like a fun read. And it was…but…it fitted the title a bit too well. It seemed to be trying so hard to fit in the erotic part that the story and the beauty of romance got lost. I wasn’t really sure why Catrin had two jobs? Why she abandoned her principles, her mums lifelong tirade against men that was ingrained into her psyche, to get together with Henri risking the job she’s been working so hard for. She knows if she’s caught that’s it – she’s out, job gone, career gone and all that hard work lost, and it just didn’t fit the image we had of her. Lust certainly, Henri clearly is gorgeous, but there needed for me to be something more than just that for her to risk so much.
Henri is a real dream, lovely character, but again I needed to know a bit more about him as a person, not just as a sex god! Then there’s the potential for some terrific jealousy angle, with the introduction of a beautiful model as his partner to boost media appearances, but its really a bit of a washout for me, when it could have been such a strong, sharp, anguishing, heartbreaking part.
So it becomes a story that’s certainly well done on the erotic end, but where for me the beauty of romance is lacking, the build up, the being together, the heartbreak were all just OK when I need them to be fabulous. Its priced at £2.84 for 144 pages, and I think if it had been longer, with more on them as people and their lives I’d have rated it higher.
Stars: Three.

About jeanniezelos
I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.2 responses to “Trying Too Hard…. Hi Jeannie, thanks for the review. It was interesting to read your comments. Have a great week! Best wishes, Molly 🙂
Hi Molly, when I review I try to give my reasons for what I liked or otherwise so that others can see if its a fit for them. I’ve seen reviews where someone says something put them off, but thats a point in the books favour for me sometimes and vice versa. I try hard to be honest otherwise whats the point of reviews. I still buy books too as well as getting ARCs and use reviews and samples to judge if a books for me. I tried wrting stories years ago and found that I’m hopeless at it – its hard work and I guess some people – me – just haven’t got that mindset to create interesting themes.
