Ghost Lover

Ghost Lover by Liza O’Connor

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book Reviews.

A romance with a difference here. I loved Mr Finch the ghost cat – he was a great addition. This is a light-hearted happy, at times sappy, romance. There’s some light drama but nothing that made me feel very sad. I did get impatient at times with Senna’s always happy outlook, and Brendons complete selfishness. All the characters are OTT to a degree, and that affected how I felt about them. They seemed sometimes like teenagers rather than supposedly mature individuals. Anyway that’s the moans out the way, now for the good parts.
Its a HEA for everybody and I love that. Its an interesting and at times convoluted plot but all the tangles gradually weave together for the best outcome for each. The ghost additions made it different and unusual, without those it would have been a definite humdrum romance for me, but there were parts that really made me smile. I’d have chain-sawed the weird trees and bushes too! I think more could have been made of Gar’s fiancée..she was in briefly, provided some amusement and then..gone. I like a “good” bitch in a romance, some one to dislike 🙂 and she was perfect. You need to stretch credulity to believe why Senna is classed as criminal, and that got quite unnecessarily complex at times I felt. Brendon was such a man-whore that even Senna must have felt slighted at times, and yet she just kept on smiling – she made me think of that Duracell battery ad where the little rabbits kept drumming on and on and on…
Caitlin was a real bitch at times, I know she had a bad background but she was very selfish, and I didn’t like her. For Brendon though she was perfect so although individually I didn’t like all the characters together they made an interesting and fun team.
I don’t have price info but it’s a reasonable length at 74,000 words. I feel longer stories always work better especially when they’re as complex as this one 🙂 A fun and unusual paranormal romance.
Stars: four.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
