Quicksilver Dreams (Dreamwalkers)

Quicksilver Dreams. Danube Adele
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
When I started this I was quickly hooked, and I thought it was going to be one I’d vote a five star for. Taylor is a great lead, feels so real and I felt I understood her – she’d struggled, and yet still retained her kindness in her fight for a better life than the one she’d had. That makes so many people hard and yet Taylor had a genuine kindness to her – I felt she’s someone that could easily be a friend. I need to like my lead characters and Taylor was perfect. Then in came Ryder – wow- I could see just how she felt as she did about him, though he had some strange, almost throwback ideas, about women and clothes etc. Danube style of writing was easy to follow and led smoothly from one part to the next, keeping me clear about what was happening. I hate being left “in the dark” when things happen that haven’t been explained, and reader has to pick up as story continues. That doesn’t mean reader is spoon fed here, just that what’s happening fits with expected plots.
When she finds the metal I was “oh, where’s this going to lead ?” and for a while it was fine. There was action and danger, all as I expected and then…Ryder takes her to his home planet. That’s where it began to fall down for me. There was so much information, and descriptions of everything that I just failed to take much in. I was just wondering why she didn’t have more questions, especially when someone she knows well enters the scene. She seemed the sort who’d be more curious, and TBH this part felt to me very YA, but with erotic sex thrown in to spice things up – strange planet, battles and heroes, mental voices and of course the dream-walking, it was all a kind of overload. The dream-walking part was fine in itself, and proved a good vehicle to explain things without overloading the reader with other info, but coupled with the rest I just lost the thread for a bit. It seemed Taylor was on a switchback ride, enemy to saviour to enemy, lover to traitor to lover, just too much in a short space with little other action to moderate that influence.
Coming back to Earth I felt it regained some of that speciality I felt on first beginning the book. Ryder was still the control freak but sensuous lover hottie, but he and Taylor needed some serious time to work things out – the action though didn’t give them that. I’m assuming this is part of a series as there’s certainly scope for lots more from them, and the battle over mylunate, Taylor and Ryders relationship and Taylor’s heritage. I hope so anyway – I think this is a good start, even though I lost in a bit in the middle.
Stars: three and a half.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
