Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.

I love paranormal and fantasy, and when it involves Fae the potential for something really different is high, so I was looking forward to this book. Sadly it didn’t work for me. I found Jaye odd, supposedly a successful businessman he meets Allyn at a convention where he is overseeing an event and, attracted to her he…asks her out? no… asks her to come to the bar for a drink? no. He asks her to tell him a bedtime story, as he’s been having trouble sleeping! Then later, when she hasn’t responded to his numerous emails, the only point of contact between them, but turns up with his assistant Tommy’s boyfriend to take him to a Fae Fair he goes without question…they walk across a car park into another world, and he takes it all in his stride 😮 – I just felt he’d have acted differently right from the start, as a successful businessman he’d have questioned more, been more resourceful, proactive, but instead he just tags along without questioning anything. Then the food at the Fair, I was expecting mead, wines made from fruits and trees, honey cakes, little delicious titbits like mushroom pasties and fruit breads soaked in nectar…and what did they have, beer, coleslaw and grilled turkey legs. Have you seen the size of even a small turkey leg. Mum used to roast one for a meal for the five of us, they’re not dainty things and just didn’t fit the mental image I had. Sadly at this point I gave up. I just couldn’t find any credulity in the story. Maybe I’m just too literal, and need to be more open minded, but for me a story has to have characters I love (and hate of course, need the bad ones ) and a plot that’s realistic within the parameters of fantasy of course.

Maybe you can ignore the parts that didn’t work for me, and go along with the story and enjoy it – we all like different things, and this is just one persons view. From the four and five star reviews I’m clearly in the minority, but that’s what makes books so exciting, that there is always something for everyone whatever your personal taste. Its priced at £1.92 for 230 pages.

Stars: Two, the story just didn’t work for me.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.

I hate writing any less that three star reviews, i don’t want to put authors off after they’ve spent so much time and effort, but i have to balance that with need for honesty so i reckon at least if i say why its not for me then maybe other readers can see if they can ignore that part.

Great and honest review. Sometimes, books just don’t work for everyone, though to be honest sounds like I would have given up too!
