The Home Court Advantage (Lawyers in Love) N.M. Silber

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.

So, I loved The Law of Attraction and was pleased that when I read it the sequel was out. That makes for a better read for me, when I can get the full story back to back 🙂 I laughed so much in the first book I was hoping to find more of the same silly humour.

I did, once again the cases Gabrielle defends run to comedic, and her mishaps are non stop. This time in pursuit of who’s behind the threats and the stalking she gets her friends to go to a nightclub – when she slips up, flashed her lady bits to everyone along the way ( hoping to surprise Braden later – he definitely got surprised!) and her partner convinced her actions are purposeful pulls her into a dance as she’s trying to get back to her feet. She calls it The Flail, and notices several others mimicking it later…then she gets them all to go on a weekend of Truth Seeking – a conspiracy theorists gathering, where she thinks the stalker might attend. There’s more mayhem there as always, being around Gabrielle should come with a warning….

A great story, full of humour and laugh out loud moments, caught up with a side of sensual, erotic sex. Gabrielle and Braden can’t keep their hands ( and other parts..) off each other, even sneaking into the jury room for a quickie while court going on outside! They’re a great pair, Gabrielle and her accident proneness ( sadly something I know all too well – when I broke my hip after falling out of the wheelchair moving my horses electric fence, it gave the hospital staff a great anecdote for their colleagues. I’d forgotten that was the side where my leg had been amputated, and was only four inches left of it, and pushed it out to stop me tipping over…didn’t work, gave me a big ouch though. ) add the perfect blend of humour and light heartedness to a sizzling, erotic romance. Braden is the perfect foil for her, and luckily saw for himself that where she ends up wasn’t usually where she’d planned, so he understood flashing at the dance floor, and dancing with his sleaze-ball cousin genuinely wasn’t intentional. I really enjoyed the story, the saga of the stalker/letter writer isn’t a solid heavy suspense angle, but just a bit extra to carry some of the humorous actions Gabrielle does. Its got a brilliant finish beautifully wrapped up to complete the story.

It’s priced at £1.86 for 232 pages, and if you want to brighten your mood with a funny, feel good romance this is perfect.

Stars: five.

About the Author

Once upon a time … N.M. Silber was a criminal defense attorney who got up each morning, donned her power suit and sensible pumps, downed a gallon of coffee and set out to “fight the good fight” while trying to not go insane. Having a dark sense of humor and a sarcastic wit helped — a lot. Another thing that helped was reading. As escapism was the goal, she liked to read romance novels, especially really funny ones and really sexy ones. Then one day something beautiful happened — she read one that was both funny and sexy at the same time. She hung up her power suit, put away her sensible pumps, and moved her coffee mug to her computer. Now she writes funny and smutty romance novels herself and she lives happily ever after.

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.

I’d read the preview, and was laughing already at the wit and banter between Gabrielle and Braden…so knew I’d love this book. And I did…

I laughed at Gabrielle’s ability to turn a simple situation into a major disaster (sadly I know how easy that is!) – then again once we met her family I understood she’d had a lifetime of training in madness. But she’s so funny with it, caring and generous, and able to see beneath the surface to appreciate people’s real qualities. Player Braden sees that, loves her wit, and her boobs…..but she’s not going to be a one night stand, wants more than being another notch on his bedpost, so holds out for dates – in the plural, and exclusivity. That’s fine by Braden, seeing her daily at work and opposite side of the court to him he knows she’s more than a one off for him. So they date, and rapidly progress to some racy, sensual sex…they just can’t keep their hands off each other. Accompanied all the while by dry, humorous wit ( sometimes the UK/US divide means humour doesn’t translate but for this UK reader it was perfect), court situations where Gabrielle has to use her ingenuity to come up with some form of defence, as the characters really have no hope usually but occasionally she gets lucky. I loved the examples given, I’m sure court isn’t really like that but how it would brighten things if it was!

There’s a threat to Gabrielle that she manages to turn into a full scale hilarious conspiracy, with her friends tracking down perpetrators without letting Braden or her family know. She’s convinced its one of three people, and doesn’t want her family or Braden’s to get caught up in some media blast story, thinking she can deal with it if she finds out whose behind it. Of course it leads her and them into some weird and wonderful scenarios that had me in stitches. There’s a cast of fabulous characters, and of course I can’t forget Bruno the Guard Chihuahua…. its a story I loved, and will re read when I want a light hearted book to brighten my day. I’m looking forward to the follow up – and to any others the author writes. I think there’s more planned about other characters, and that’s great as the writing style is perfect for me, and the characters deserve books to themselves. Priced at £1.86 for 242 pages its a bargain.

Stars: Five, laughed all the way. Its like Rumpole of the Bailey, but with sexy, erotic interludes and deeper humour.

Once upon a time two lawyers fell in love across a courtroom …

Gabrielle Ginsberg was a public defender with plenty of nerve and Braden Pierce was an assistant district attorney with a whole lot of swagger. Gabrielle wanted Braden and Braden wanted Gabrielle.
And Cameron wanted Gabrielle.
And Marla wanted Braden.
And Cole wanted Gabrielle.
And Mrs. Mason wanted Braden.
And an anonymous letter writer wanted to keep Gabrielle and Braden apart.
Together Gabrielle and Braden discovered many important things, like which doors at the courthouse actually locked, and that desks could be useful for more than writing. They also found out that the path of love was not always smooth, and it was sometimes trod upon by some really wacky people, like a confused fanny grabber, an eighty-two year old pothead and a gentleman who threw a wine and cheese party in his pants. Could true love overcome a lack of privacy, interference by jealous rivals and the insanity of the criminal court system?

NOTICE: This book contains explicit descriptions of sexual situations and mature language. It is intended for readers over the age of eighteen.
