Circle of Desire. A Damask Circle Book: 3. Keri Arthur

Circle of Desire. A Damask Circle Book: 3. Keri Arthur
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I love the Nikki and Michael books, and this spin off trilogy about other members of The Circle has been great. I’m just sad that this is the last one 😦
Once again there’s a mystery to be solved, people to be saved and a good, sexy, sensual hot male to throw in some spice! Gwen and her granddaughter Kat work for The Circle, and they’ve been sent to investigate just what is taking and killing children. They’re both talented witches and have other talents too.
Dedicated cop Ethan is a born werewolf, though he hates that side of his personality and suppresses it as much as he is able. His niece is one of the latest two children to be kidnapped, and he’s been stood down from the case as being too closely involved. He can’t just sit back though, and has already met Gwen and Kat. Though he thinks their claims as witches and psychics are nonsense, he knows they are involved in the case with police approval, and he decides sticking with them is his best way of helping. Gwen knows he’ll be staying with them – she’s seen it in her scrying. He’s attracted to Kat and she to him, and its close to the moon when he needs to have sex, lots of it – the moon and the wolf demand it, and its one part of him that he cannot suppress for fear of losing control totally. He tells Kat that its sex only though, he isn’t looking for anything more and once the case is over he’s walking away. Of course we readers can see how futile that is! I liked Ethan but stubborn and intransigent doesn’t even begin to cover his attitude. His eyes are soon opened to the fact there’s more to the supernatural world than werewolves, as he sees Gwen and Kat perform spells and scry for clues as to what’s going in – and he meets, hough unwillingly – vampires. He’s on a steep learning curve, and as he sees what he thinks is impossible become real its a shock.
Gwen and Kat, great team, work very closely together with that innate confidence born of being together and knowing the others style for years. Sometimes I felt Gwen was sniggering a bit about Ethan and his shock as what else is in the world, and the way he and Kat are so pulled together, yet adamant its just sex. And its hot, steamy, erotic sex too…..
As well as giving us characters that feel real, Keri presents the supernatural in a way that makes it all seem believable. She doesn’t give her characters get out of jail, quick fix instant new powers but uses tried and tested methods, charms, sleep bombs, kinetic powers and werewolf strength, to get them out of the scrapes they fall in. Its once again a great read, and one that will be in the keepers file. The whole trilogy is a bit lighter in feel that the Nikki series, with the romance angle being stronger but still wrapped up in a satisfying and realistic mystery. I’m just sad that this marks the end – one of the few times I’d like to see a trilogy become longer…..and I never say that! Still, rather than dragged out stories with horrible cliffhangers, each story in this trilogy is complete with just Seline and The Circle linking them, so it doesn’t have that awful feeling as if the book is just been cut right when all the action is happening. It’s priced at £5.49 for 304 pages, no cheap but a quality story and one that bears re reading.
Stars: five – fabulous read.
