Ransom, Rachel Schurig

Ransom (Ransom Brothers)

Ransom, Rachel Schurig
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews

I’ve read a few romances recently that have been technically good, but that lacked real drama and emotion, so I turned to the NA genre for my next read. Though I’m well past that age I find this genre usually provides plenty of emotion.
So, Poor Daisy, she’s had some awful, really bad problems that have turned her life upside down. She’s at a new college, far away from her old one and her dad lives in a new condo, having sold their old house. She lives close to school, and tries to go about her day as usual, eyes down, minimal interaction with anyone else. Its a lonely life but the only way she can be. Then Paige and Karen bounce into her life, they won’t take no for an answer, and before she knows it she’s on a three week tour following the girls favourite band…what they don’t know is Daisy grew up next door to the boys, best friends with lead singer Daltrey, but hasn’t had contact at all over the past year.
Daltrey is stunned to hear from Daisy, and he’s still a bit p issed that she broke contact the way she did. From being almost joined at the hip since they were five, to her being a huge support to the band and always with them, she just dropped him, didn’t return calls, emails, nothing, even got her dad to tell him not to contact her any more, and now she’s coming to see them and won’t tell him why. Can they pick up where they left off? Daltrey hopes so, he’s always loved her though he never told her that, now if he has a chance he’s not letting her get away.
Like most NA this is a book packed with drama, filled with emotion, and takes something sadly too common nowadays and shows just what an awful impact it can have upon individual lives. I read another similar book recently, and like this one it mad me feel really sad, but thankfully there’s a HEA – I need those!
Stars: Four and a half, Great read, emotive and realistic with problems that are becoming more prevalent 😦

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
This sounded fun, but proved to be a bit light and fluffy for me, lacking real depth and drama. Still, there’s lots of readers who love a novel like this, easy to read, a HEA and some fun and humour within the story.
I think one of the problems I had was I didn’t really like Carrie. I loved the oldies, and Jacob and Izzie, and of course delicious lovely Nate, but Carrie…well she seemed to me really ungrateful at all the help she was getting. She was so focussed on doing things alone that she was unappreciative of all the thinks the others did, to the point of rudeness at times. I did love the awful, bitchy ex boss Anna, she provided the right person for lots of little incidents, and Carrie’s cousin Ruth was lovely too, but all in all this is just an OK read for me, a one off only. As ever though we all want different thinks and that’s worth remembering, as other readers won’t be looking for the things I do in their reading.
Stars: three, well written, easy to read novel.
