A Vampire’s Promise, Carla Susan Smith
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
Dammit, dammit, dammit I was totally engrossed in this and then…it stopped, ended, left me in limbo. Now you know how I hate that – really hate it. Its a terrific read, but this really made me frustrated – I want to read more now, not in months to come or whenever. Edit: next book due out 3rd July – so hurrah, not long to wait.
So, this was a little gentle start, we met Rowan, good girl, works hard, a bit mouthy at times but mostly quiet, has some close friends and is out with her best friend when she sees a man she mentally thinks of as The Viking. Tall, blonde and drop dead gorgeous, and he’s refusing all the ladies that are giving him the come on. Her friend says he’s looking at her, but she can’t believe it, her dating life is desolate, failed, never works out and she’s used to her gorgeous friend getting all the attraction. Leaving the bar though she finds the Viking waiting for her, and he asks her out for the following night. They start seeing each other often, but there’s always something a little mysterious about Gabriel, and the few friends they meet on occasions. They’re all gorgeous, foreign and have that same aura of danger about them. Gabriel somehow avoids telling her any personal details, and its not until things go wrong she realises she doesn’t know his last name, even though they’ve been having hot and erotic, sexy and sensual love making.
Well, damn, there I was so hooked on this, the story just built up and on in momentum, with fabulous writing that drew me in and kept me hooked and then….it ended just at a really climatic point. That’s brought it down a half star from me, as I HATE that. Its a fantastic read, I’m desperate for more, and can see its one for the keeper files. Well done Carla, looks like its the first published book, and yet has a style I’d expect from a seasoned writer. More please- and quickly! Priced at £1.89 for a fabulous 306 pages – I love long books, and its great value.
Stars: four and a half, fabulous read, except for that damn cliffhanger!
ARC supplied via Netgalley
Edit: I wrote to Carla about what’s planned for these characters. She says she’s currently working on book three – which will tell Aleksei’s story, and will continue with the series in this way so long as there’s reader interest. So if you love the books, review them and say so, tell Carla so we keep them coming!
Sounds like a great read, even with the ending 😀
Hi H, thankfully the next one is out in july – i’ve had an ARC and its a great ending 🙂 i just really hate when there’s a cliffhanger and months – sometiems over a year – bfore the next book out as by then i’ve forgotten much of the essential stuff….and have to re read back novels. and i’ve some series that i’m still waiting for next part 3 – 4 years later…..so i’m wary about these type novels.
