Very Bad Things, Ilsa Madden-Mills
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews.
Though I’m long past the NA target group sometimes I like a dip in there for the fun, deep emotion many of these books have. This one was just that, a really fun read, full of emotion, lots of secrets, some jealousies, and some hot, spicy sex. Ilsa has the knack of making even a simple kiss very sensual, and sometimes that can be more erotic than full on but poorly written sex scenes. Sadly too many books think erotica means page after page of repetitive sex….
Anyway, we meet Nora, on the surface poor little rich girl, her parents give her everything except time and love. As we get to know her better though we learn there’s far more that that behind her problems, she’s hiding a very dark secret that’s affecting her badly. Then Sebastian and Leo come into her life. Sebastian becomes a great friend, very supportive and helping Nora greatly. Leo though – from the moment their eyes meet there’s a connection, but he doesn’t respond to Nora’s seductions…he’s decided love isn’t for him, and wants to stay well away from her. Things never work out like they are planned though do they 😉 and life keeps flinging them toghether.
It’s a great read, full of all the things I love about NA, and with characters that for once aren’t dumbed down and act their age. Some NA book have people acting like early teens…here Nora is 19 and because of her upbringing she acts and thinks older than her years, likewise Leo is ( I think) 24 – 25 and has brought up his younger brother for many years after the death of their parents so he too is more mature.
There’s some really sensual scenes, its not OTT sex all the way, but lots of glances, touches, kisses before we get to the hot and spicy sex….thats a treat, and does far more for the story than if they succumbed to the attraction quickly and jumped into full on sex. I loved Tiffani ( with an I!!) she was a great character and foil for Leo, and proved the good bi tch person that most romances need IMO…Thankfully its a complete novel, a stand alone, no cliffhangers ( hurrah!!) and i’m going to look for Ilsa’s next book too now.
Stars: Five, a fun read, good solid story, lots to ponder and think about, lots of lovely emotion, beautiful build up to romance, and some rivetting dark moments.
