Fostering Love, Victoria Johns

Fostering Love (The Soul Sisters Series Book 1)

Fostering Love, Victoria Johns
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews

Well, I found this book really slow to start, it seemed to me lots of information but going no where. Add in that I didn’t really like Dalton or Jonas at first and….but take heart – things speed up, and as I got to know them better I saw behind Dalton’s abrasive quirks and realised she used this kind of aggression as a defence mechanism. Same with Jonas, he seemed surly on the surface, but really it was just a quiet, think-before-you-speak approach. As I got to know and understand them I liked them better.
Dalton and her “girls” were a great group and very supportive of her. They know she’s long held out for Jonas to want her, and can feel just how hurt she is that he’s been back for six weeks and hasn’t told her. Enough is enough she says, he’s history and she determines its time to move on. Sadly the heart and the head don’t always co-ordinate over issues of love though and its not easy to just switch off feelings, though she gives trying out other men a good shot! Jonas can’t bear seeing that – he’s long wanted Dalton, but as they were brought up in the same foster home their mum warned him off long ago, and he seems to think it still applies. Mum loves all the kids and had reasons at the time that no longer apply, both Dalton and Jonas are older now and able to make up their own minds now.
Sadly though Dalton sees he’s back again with long time FWB Leticia. The friends bit is pretty loose, it’s more a sex when they want thing, a convenience that still suits them. She’s such a horrible person though that I can’t see – other than the obvious – what Jonas sees in her, and it brings him down in my estimation. Of course just when he sees Dalton with others and comes to his senses about her, there’s a shock on the way for him. His own fault and it stops all his plans….Poor Dalton, she gets a glimpse of what she’s dreamed and its gone …and it goes on like that – he can’t have her but can’t seem to let her go, she tries to give other men a chance but can’t forget him, and all the while the real bitchy Leticia is lording it over Dalton. They’ve been at loggerheads since she spent their school years bullying Dalton, but now Dalton bites back. On one occasion that leads to a spectacular cat fight and gets the whole family involved.
Its a decent length but at times I felt some parts were a bit over explained, and at others I needed a bit more. Just what did Dalton see in Jonas for example? I know she’s crushed on him since a teen, but why – what was it that made him special. Frankly his actions with Letitia didn’t put him in a good light, and his later actions with Dalton were just selfish! How stupid is the man in this day and age, and given his circumstances not to take more care about certain issues! At times I felt Letitia got a short straw from him, he used her, with them both knowing she’s not who he wanted but still she dreamed, and even though she wasn’t a nice person did she deserve that? It doesn’t make him come off well for me. Her anger about that builds and steams though until she explodes, and there’s a huge. climatic action packed finish. That made up for the slow start, and had all the drama I love. By this time I’d even got to understand and like Jonas so was rooting for a HEA for him and Dalton.
Stars: Four, misgivings apart its a hot, erotic read and fun.

Fostering Love
The Soul Sisters Series By Victoria Johns

More about the Soul Sisters Series…

The Soul Sisters of Hawkstown grew up together and have formed a bond so strong that they’ve become like family…
Dalton Frobisher is a local photographer and came to live in Hawkstown under tough circumstances, she needed the love and support of a good family and really hit gold when she teamed up with her other sisters from an early age. She’s tall, curvy and full of sass and attitude.
Aneelia Prince is an educated local girl with city girl brains, she wants nothing more than to grow up and be happy in the community she’s come to love. She’s feisty and has a personality large enough to keep Dalton and the others in check.
Charlotte Groves is the sister’s resident privileged princess and comes from one of the exclusive Hawkstown family’s. The girls have become her ‘normal’ family and help her escape from the confines of a country club lifestyle she’s forced to endure.
Florence Smith works at the local high school teaching English, she’s the groups resident dreamer and lives her life according to romance poems and sonnets. Flo is a firm believer in fairy tales and waiting for your Prince Charming.
Together, they’ve been inseparable since the start of high school and have fought battles like true friends would. To each other they have become as dependable as true family and need each other more than ever as their lives take on new twists and turns.
Fostering Love Book Synopsis

Fostering Love is the first book in the Soul Sisters Series, which tells the story of four girls, friendship and their path to finding ‘the one’.

Being “soul sisters” is a way of life for Dalton, Aneelia, Charlotte and Florence.
Growing up together means they’ve shared all of life’s major highs and lows and managed to survive with a friendship so strong that real blood sisters would be jealous of it.
Dalton Frobisher has loved the same guy since she was a teenager.
It’s just unfortunate that he doesn’t love her back, or rather, can’t.
Growing up around the person you believe should be yours is hard, seeing him with other girls is harder but watching him leave is torture. It’s a constant state of grief because he’s still in your life and you can’t have him.
Life is full of regrets and not telling him how she felt was the biggest regret she had… so far. Dalton wasn’t going to miss that opportunity the next time it came around.
She just didn’t expect the fallout to be so… life changing.
