Twisted, (Lost in Oblivion 2), Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance, New Adult
This series embodies all that I love in a good new adult read, its full of heat, drama and emotion, and of course Cari and Taryn write such terrific books that I know its going to be one I’ll love, one that has plots that work, that don’t have gaping holes, or parts that don’t make sense.
This is book two, but there’s also a 0.5 and a 1.5 read, as well as the “first” book, and I’d recommend reading at least 0.5 and book one to get the best from this series. Each have sub plots that build on the overall stories about the group, and without the earlier knowledge its not so easy to understand the motivations of the characters, and what’s been happening with the band. We met Gray and Jazz when they first joined the band in the prequel novel, Seduced – the 0.5 read, and in book one Rocked we were with them on their first tour. Now we’re with them and their new record company, who’ve appointed the tough Lila to keep them in shape, after the problems when they almost split last time. They’re still struggling to work cohesively as they need to, with Deacon, Jazz and Grey still reeling from Simon and Nick’s plotting….
The book focuses on Gray and Jazz, though its encompasses all the members and of course Lila and Deacon’s wife Harper ( book 1.5 covers Harper and Deacon). All the way through its been clear that Gray and Jazz have an incredible bond, though they’re not lovers, but you get the feeling its just a matter of time. On the outside we of course can see they’re in love, but Gray seems to feel he’s not good enough for Jazz, and she seems to think he doesn’t want her. Now with their backstory we can see how they reached that point. Its a great read, I loved learning more of their earlier connection, how they met, and its so sad in parts, shocking in others and …poor Jazz…Its clear now where her perky, hide the true face from the world attitude comes from. Its that, or curl up and give in and life has taught her its a battle, and its one she’s determined to win – but, oh how she wishes Gray would be there with and for her, not just as a protector but as a partner. Gray, he had what seemed like a perfect life, good looking, talented and in a band,  supportive parents, did well at school, and was constantly one of the “in” people, with girls throwing themselves at him. Living the Teen Dream. Then when he’s 16 Jazz comes into his life, and from that first look he knows he’s never going to be the same again.
As it does time passes and they grow and learn, Jazz struggles to fit in at school, but Gray is always there, helping when he can and doing his best to protect her. It all seems perfect, and then after a couple of years something big happens that shatter it all, changes everything. Poor Jazz once again is alone, though she’s older now, and after a couple of years she decides to stop yearning for Gray and find him. ( oh and when she does….tear jerk moment!!) Then they join the band and once again its all change.
The book is told alternating from past to present, and sometimes I find that hard as I’m just into the moment and it all changes, usually right at a critical moment. Still, it worked, and to be honest I can’t see a better way of connecting the past and present without giving too much of the story away and spoiling it for the readers…and we don’t want that. Done this way allowed me to gradually combine what had happened to how they became the people they are now, their actions stem from their pasts, and I really felt connected to them as though I understood them. Finally all seems good at last for Gray and Jazz, after all the years of separation and heartbreak they can finally look for a happy future together but…the bands success and the pressures of his and Jazz connections had been hard for Gray, and now he’s stuck in a trap he can’t get out of which could make them lose their perfect future.
I can’t finish without mentioning Lila – she’s a great manager/rep, and without her things would be very different. I’m so pleased that she’s part of a future book, as I’ve grown to really like her.  Once again we’ve a novel full of drama and emotion, where I veered between heartbroken to soaring pleasure for Gray and Jazz. They’ve gone through so much, things just have to finally go well for them – they deserve it. They have a real connection, a love that’s scarce, where they will do everything for the other and where we can see they really are two halves of a whole.
Stars: Five, I think this is my favourite book so far, and I’m really getting to know the band and the motivations of each character.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
