Blood Wolf Dawning, Rhyannon Byrd

Blood Wolf Dawning, Rhyannon Byrd
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Paranormal romance.
Though this is a series its one of those where each book is complete. I’d read book four and loved it, so when I saw this I was keen to catch up with the Runners. Sadly though I didn’t enjoy this one. Its a paranormal book based around werewolves, but although there were references to the pack and we meet other members, the only actual werewolf/paranormal action is a short killing of three humans early on and the final battle between Cian and Aedan – and that’s quite quickly over. The rest could have been culled from any conventional romance and I found both Cian and Sayre very frustrating. The back and forth, the long time he’d been away, the reason he left, her reasons for isolating herself – they just didn’t really work for me. I didn’t feel the connection between them, that sizzle of erotic lust, of sexual tension and when he calls her “baby” that’s one of my pet peeves…I just hate that expression. Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s more common in the US but it’s a real jerk reaction of “urghh” when I read it. I’ve never – honestly – never heard anyone male or female say it in reference to a partner. Then he uses another of my squirky quirks when he keeps calling her “his little witch” – its that  Little reference, it sounds so belittling, so demeaning, and I really dislike it. Ryannon isn’t the only author though – its used very often in the alpha male context, but it grates on me..
So although the romance worked out in the end I just didn’t really get with the plot, and missed the usual paranormal connection so for me this book was a fail 😦

Stars: Sadly just a two.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
