His Irresistible Darling, Sarah Randall

His Irresistible Darling, Sarah Randall
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre : Contemporary Romance

Sometimes I enjoy a straightforward, feel-good romance and was hoping this would be one such read. I do need lots of drama though in my reading, whatever genre it is and sadly for me this book lacked it. Its perfectly written with realistic characters, but though it had lots of length ( hurrah) I felt nothing really happened. Pippa annoyed me TBH with her unending cheeriness. I get why she acts that way but is felt almost OTT and Pollyanna like. A day with her would send me mad!!. Jumal, he was interesting but in a way a bit of a wimp. He let his parents walk over him, let his fiancée walk over him and then once he’s swung the situation so that Pippa is staying at his house, he lets her do it too…they really were opposites in their behaviour and I just couldn’t help wondering what – besides physical attraction – was between them. I needed some kind of connection and yet I didn’t find it. I felt the fiancée was a missed opportunity – she was an unpleasant person, and could have provided some much needed dramatics but didn’t. Same with his parents, well his father anyway. Pippa really isn’t what he wanted for his son but apart from one incident that just seemed to slide by. I guess overall that’s how it went for me – it was fun and interesting to a degree, but I always felt disconnected from the main characters, and was waiting for something to happen that just didn’t. Even at the end when all had been looking promising, and then wasn’t it felt a bit flat for me. I need to feel I am almost “in” the story, to feel what the characters are feeling.  Still, as always that’s my views, and not everyone wants deep drama and theatrics in their reading, and if that’s you then this is a well written story you may love. For me though it was just an OK read. Stars: Three, lacked the action and theatricals I need from the characters and the plots.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
