Bind the Soul, Steel & Stone: Book 2, Annette Marie

Bind the Soul, Steel & Stone: Book 2, Annette Marie
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews.

Genre: Sci-fi and fantasy, teens and YA.

I don’t read much YA, but sometimes stories are such that they transcend genre restrictions, and this series is typical of that. Its written in a typical easy to follow YA style, and yet the content will appeal to older readers too – and I’m looong past the YA group!

I really enjoyed the first in this series, it was very promising, and this second instalment lives up to that and takes it further. Piper – she’s a great lead, strong willed, stands up for herself, and even though she has no magic in a world full of it she doesn’t sit back and wail, but has learned to be as fit and to fight as well as she possibly can. After the last run in with the Stone she’s in trouble though. Dad is Really Cross with her – she rescued him and her uncle, but gets no thanks from him, just a sever reprimand and grounding when he sees a pic of her kissing Ash in the demon fight she had to compete in. ( and wow – that kiss was Hot) Seems unfair when he gave her the Stone to take care of, and none of what happened after was down to her. What else would he have her do?
Ash is missing now though, Lyre can’t find him and they think he’s back in the clutches of Samael, and she finds out why he keeps going back – he has no choice and is being forced, blackmailed even, to do what he does for him. Being Piper of course she can’t leave her friend in trouble so she and Lyre make plans to rescue him – well, to see what they can do anyway. Lyre can’t go to where he is, being an upper Daemon though, and so they see what they can do to help him with the restrictions they have. On Lilith’s advice they attend the upcoming Gala, where Piper has another run in with Micah – oh he’s a sleazy Daemon that one! As if that’s not enough, she gets captured and ends up in Samael’s clutches, where he wants to force her to use the Stone for his bidding. Trouble is she doesn’t know how she did it, and he’s not content with that as an answer…he brings in Ash and tortures him in front of her to speed up her results.
Well, I’m always saying how I hate when lead characters get new powers just at the right time, but here its not exactly a new power, and Annette gives us logic and reasoning as to how it all came about. I’m happy with that – it fits the storyline perfectly and allows for Piper to get where she needs to be. The budding romance between Ash and Piper heats up –his kisses certainly have the wow factor! Where can that go though as Haemon and Daemons can’t be together – but their hearts aren’t listening. Its a sad ending though – this part of the story is complete, but its clear there’s more to come, the stone is still around and those like Samael who want to use its power won’t be stopped just yet. We don’t see her mum in this part either but I’m sure they’re still around too, waiting for the opportunity for a power grab.
Stars: Five, it’s a fun read, full of action, with a side of emerging romance.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
