Hawk’s Revenge, Vivi Andrews
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: paranormal Romance
My first visit to Lone Pine, although this is the third book featuring it and the people around it. It sets out what I think would happen if paranormal creatures/people were real – we’d be seeing them as less than human, more like animals and using science and the utilitarian benefit argument as an excuse for some horrific experiments, and keeping people in captivity. We’re a cruel lot we humans, well some anyway, and we already find that many disabled people are regarded as “Less” sadly.
Rachel struggled with what she did, but wanting to continue helping the captured shifters escape she told herself Hawk would be captured anyway by the Organization. Adrian can’t forgive her betrayal though, even though six months later she helps him escape. She wanted to leave with him, but that didn’t happen and now she’s under suspicion and trapped, unable to escape. She managed to give him key info though on the Organization, and armed with that the shifters need to try hitting back, knowing their targets better.
Its a great read, full of very real drama and emotion. I so felt for Rachel, but also for Adrian. He understands inside himself what she did and why, but can’t forgive that she didn’t tell him, at least give him a choice. I can understand that – I wondered too why she didn’t trust him, but then of course the whole book would change! .Added to which he believes that she aided in his torture while in captivity. If they are to get back their love and romance she needs to convince him she didn’t, but he can’t forgive or forget what he believes he heard. Adrian is a great lead, full of inner strength, but a solitary type. As a Hawk he’s been working with the Lone Pine Pride, consisting of mixed shifters but mostly Cats of some type. There are some that believe Rachel is a part of the Organization and not to be trusted, who would kill her if given the chance, and others who revere her as a hero for all she’s done in rescuing so many. Adrian thought he was in love until she turned him in, and now he’s angry that he still has feelings for her, he doesn’t want them but can’t seem to stop them. When she’s under threat from some of the shifters though he appoints himself her captor and protector, and that gives Rachel a faint hope that all may eventually work out.
Its a read full of drama; escapes, captures, threats and hatred, love and loving. a real mixed bag of plots that meld together to form a brilliant read. I want to read more from Lone Pine!
. Stars: Five, Its a great ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers
