Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
I loved the first two books in this trilogy, but as it’s some time since I read them I needed to refresh my brain on the story, ( and that’s why I always like to read books like this back to back, I get the full impact of events that way, instead of them being diluted by time…)
Its another great read but…..I felt all the way through that Alastair’s “closed off” behaviour was going to lead to some startling revelation. It seemed to happen so often, he was hot and cold and the slightest things set him off, a conversation, a question, his family phoning, even a photo could do it I felt, and as it was so frequent I just thought we’d discover some concrete reason behind it….
Once again I couldn’t help but love them both even though they were irritating at times. It just made them more real, more human. I got so cross at Alistair when he just shut Lia out – and then her overthinking, that was so real. I know as I do the same thing, spend ages mulling over conversations or incidents thinking what I could have said or done better, whether I’ve caused offence, what the other person really meant, ( because its far too simple to accept things at face value!!) There were times when I couldn’t believe she let Alistair get away with something without questioning the life out of him, such as when she walks in to his office unexpectedly and someone from his past is there…I’d have been saying “ why, what did she want, how long has she been here, did you invite her” etc. etc..
The exes, they were terrific. I love a romance to have some tenacious exes, or someone determined to split the couple, it adds such fun! This novel has a few and two of them are real nasties, who keep telling Lia he’ll return to them, she won’t last, she’s just a fling and so on. Poor Lia, she knows he does love her but with his past reputation its not easy to put their words and actions to one side.
Overall its a great read, with some really special moments from Alistair which were so beautiful and romantic, but I missed the drama from the earlier reads. Somehow, though there was drama here it seemed muted, and I was underwhelmed by it. Maybe I was just expecting too much after the first two, I just felt I was waiting for something that never materialised.
Stars: Four and a half. That missing drama just took it down a notch for me

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
