The Star Prophecy, Book One of The Daughters of Prophecy, Ainsley Brooks
Genre: Fantasy/Paranormal Romance.
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
This was a fun read, probably a one off for me as its got quite a YA feel to it. I enjoyed seeing just what the Wielders could do – I have an affinity for books that contain what I think of as Earth magic, using natural resources, and that’s what the Wielders here do. Sadly though for many years most kingdoms have seen them as too dangerous, and they’ve been killed. That’s what happened to Aerdrin’s mother, she was burned to death but thankfully Aerdrin was taken to the Sanctuary where she was trained with others like her. Now a prophecy sends her to Talehndor, to see out the Prince and save him from forthcoming danger.
Of course its not as straightforward as that – she and Kaid fall in love, but for the sake of the kingdom he has to marry another, a woman who’s cold and manipulative. When he meets Aerdrin and learns more about wielders it makes him question what he believes. There are battles, trials and lots of magic and danger; its all a fun read and I was wondering what would happen next. There were surprises in store for me too, some things I’d guessed, or at least had an idea about, but others were completely unexpected.
Poor Kaid, trapped and unable to be with Aerdrin as he wants, she’s heartbroken, especially as at first she doesn’t know of his engagement so when she does overhear him…. Although he says he’ll send an escort with her back to the sanctuary she tells him she’s staying – its her destiny, even though her visions seem to show her burning to death….he tries hard to protect her, to arrange guards but she’s so upset about the marriage she won’t have any, and shuts herself off from him. From being mistrusted when she first arrived, she’s won over many of the people and has lots of support and help. With her supporters and some people who’ve been waiting for her and the prophecy she sets up another sort of Sanctuary in the kingdom. The separation was hard on Kaid and Aerdrin, and I felt so much for them, she was so in love and yet Kaid was just single minded about what he saw as the only thing he could do…he just couldn’t open his mind to other possibilities.
Stars: Four, its a fun magical read, suitable for younger readers too and I’m sure they’ll love the tale, and all the magic in it. Its pretty much at the lowest YA I’d read, I enjoy these sometimes but only for an occasional dip into the genre.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
