Bite at First Sight, Brooklyn Ann
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews.
Genre: Romance, Paranormal, Historical
Well, this sounded fun so I dived in eagerly. It was fun but…very light and fluffy. Its kind of like reading a 70’s Mills and Boon with a historical, paranormal slant. There’s no great surprises, but its a fun read if you just want something light and easy. Cassandra is a good lead, and typical of those who had intelligence at a time when ladies were frowned upon for wanting to do more than just run the home and have babies…must have been a nightmare, and so sad for those like her who have the talent to do more. Luckily she gets found in the graveyard by Rafael and not one of the other vampires or her story would probably have ended there! He’s a good lead too- dark and brooding, all the best vampires are like that!! He takes her home when he finds he’s unable to mesmerize her into forgetting she’s seen him, and waits for instructions from the elders as to what to do with her. The choices are slim, kill her or change her and as he’s been a naughty lad recently he doesn’t have the strength necessary to change her himself, but he can’t tell the Elders that. A real conundrum for him, and add in that as a somewhat brooding and surly man he’s not got many friends he can ask. He’s long admired her ( and she him) so of course while they’re waiting for instructions they get closer, a lot closer, and to his amazement she works successfully at healing his disfigured and damaged arm.
Rafael has more than just Cassandra to worry about though, one of his vampires goes missing, and he uncovers a plot against him by his second. Its all comes to a head, tying everything up neatly. Its a fun read if you’re looking for light and fluffy, but I was hoping for something a bit stronger and deeper in the storyline.
Stars: Three, a fun read but a one off for me.
