Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
I’ve read and enjoyed sports based romances before so was looking forward to this one. It was a fun read, lots of humour threaded through (amazenuts…that made me snigger, and the characters were very well drawn. I loved Shawn and Cassidy, and their animosity. Its that love/hate relationship and made for some great dialogue. the story is told from alternating POV and that worked well for me, letting me see their inner thoughts. Cassidy’s friends were great too and I hope they continue into the next novels.
Cassidy is a woman working in a man’s world, and has worked very hard to get where she is. She wants to make partner, but so does Shaw, and he’s also come a long way to get where he is.Their boss tells them whichever gets the new signing, gets to be partner – Game on!
Well, the heat is definitely fiery here, with plenty of steamy, sensual sex. They really just can’t seem to keep their hands off each other once they start, and even when they’re f ing they still keep up the snark and bitching, leading to some great humour. One thing though – Shaw needs to learn there’s a name for people that rely on the withdrawal method – Parents. He knows Cassidy is on the pill, but she could be lying to him after all – and most important – as he also thinks she’s sleeping with others and vice versa I’m astonished that they kept on having sex without a condom. That’s not something someone in their positions, very career orientated, would do surely? and its definitely not a message to be sending out. ( still, given the failure rate of condoms in romance novels where characters always seem to fall pregnant even though they use them, maybe it’s not such a problem!) I did find their first transition from enemies into sex partners a little difficult to accept, but given the characters and their history I don’t think there is an easy, believable way to get them where they needed to be for the story. The sex scenes were certainly very erotic, so fit the genre well, but for me I’d have liked a little more story, a bit more of the sports angle and whatever else was going on in their life.
The ending – Gah, cliff-hanger, though at least it is a natural break point. Its a trilogy so more to come, book two in November but book three I’ve no idea….Sadly by the time that’s out I’ll have forgotten this part. Still, I love to read serials/trilogies etc back to back when I’ve all parts. I find the story so much better that way.
Stars: Four. Its a funny, sexy read, but the condom issue plus the need ( for me) for a bit more story stopped this from being a five.

About jeanniezelos
I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.review info
