There Goes the Bride, Runaway Brides Book 3, Catherine Mann, Joanne Rock

There Goes the Bride, Runaway Brides Book 3, Catherine Mann, Joanne Rock
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance,
I thought this would be a fun, light-hearted read, and sometimes that’s what we need, something light after reading angst and drama – I love books with that but after a while my brain needs a contrast, something to relax with. I hadn’t realised this book is so short though – just 2133 kindle locations/1218 KB, I’d guess at around 100 pages maybe? I know many people like shorter reads but I find they rarely suit me, as I just can’t get a solid sense of the characters or story.
Though this book didn’t work for me, I can see its fine- more than fine in fact – for many others, but I found it just too flimsy and lightweight. I didn’t really feel I knew the characters, and though there seemed something sparking between Myles and Lindsey I didn’t feel it was ever properly explored. A couple of hot sex sessions doesn’t mean HEA to me. Lindsey’s family just seemed odd, and to have no real connections with each other, no family closeness, just a weird relationship where nothing really made sense to me.

The big mystery, the plot surrounding the book Myles wants to write, and which the subjects family don’t want as it will reveal secrets best kept quiet was weird. Hinted at throughout the book, we finally get to learn what the big secret is and really its a storm in a teacup, a real let down, and I couldn’t see why they were all so worried. I don’t understand why Myles was so fixated on writing the book when his mother, who was part of the story ( and presumably knew the big secret), tells him not to do it. He’s got a lot of respect for her, so to me his reasons for writing the book didn’t add up. He’s a music producer, not a writer and it just didn’t seem a useful way to spend his time. He seemed to be aiming for some kind of expose when everyone – the fans, the family and even his own mother – said Lana was a wonderful and talented lady…. The ending came as a real anti climax for me, after the build up – I found it hard to believe Myles would act in that way.
Its a kind of Angel Delight read for me, sweet but light and no real substance, and when I finished it I didn’t really feel satisfied. It’s not a bad book, just for me it didn’t do anything and the story itself just lacked any real depth or substance.
Stars: Two, it’s an inoffensive read for me but I can’t say I enjoyed it. Others do – che sara …..

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.

I completely understand what you are saying. I really NEED a light read sometimes – but that doesn’t work at times, does it? Too light, too short, too “there is no way she would act that way”. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I need a ‘quickie’ read, just something to relax me before bedtime… but often those books wind up irritating me instead. Ah well, at least I won’t bother with this one! 😉
