The Touch of Betrayal, a SIN & HONEY novella, Taryn Scarlett

The Touch of Betrayal, a SIN & HONEY novella,  Taryn Scarlett
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre:  Romance,
Taryn has taken some well known old testament stories and given us another (fictional) view of them. They’re short reads, this one is just 104 pages, but work well. The first one – seven years of longing – is currently free on amazon and a great way to try out Taryn’s series.
Everyone thinks they know the story of Samson and Delilah, how she betrayed him, but is it really as simple as that? No one looks at her motives, just judges her actions. IMO the Bible is very sexist anyway, and she’s condemned as a whore even though she had little other option. Females then who didn’t have a father, husband or brother to provide couldn’t just go and sign on, or get a job shelf stacking, never mind the education for a more satisfying, well paid job. The oldest profession really was the only one open to them, and usually their downfall too. No-one blames the men, just the women, plus ca change and all that….it still happens in so many countries
We see poor Delilah when she’s desperate, stuck in a position where whatever she does is going to get her in trouble, and when offered – well, blackmailed really – a possible way out she takes it. Then she actually meets Samson, and finds he’s not like he’s portrayed, a killer out blindly rampaging and needing to be stopped, but a passionate man, dealt a wrong by those he should have been able to trust, and she finds she’s falling for him…and Taryn entrances us into another possible explanation for what then occurs.
Its a fun read, I adored reading the Red Tent many years back. The old Testament has some fabulous tales, most very harsh and blood thirsty, not the sanitised explanations we’re too often given. Its like comparing the original Grimm’s fairy tales to the Disney versions we now see. There’s always a story behind the story, and that’s what Taryn gives us, another possibility, a more sympathetic look at what may have occurred.
Stars: Five, a well written and interesting story. I could feel I was there along with Delilah, living out the day to day changes.that’s what keeps me reading, that feeling I’m in the story observing events as they happen.   Its not a re-reader for me but one I very much enjoyed as a one off.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
