Final stretch of what has been a terrific fantasy series. I love series like this where there’s lots of magic, unusual creatures ( the Morrigan, Shape-shifters, Fae, Trolls, Selkies are just some of what’s been through the series) some suspense and a romance running through. At the start when I though Shaw had cheated I hated him…Poor Thierry, she was so in love with him, and then he did that! Of course once the truth came out I’d got attached to Rook too, and even though he wasn’t perfect I still have a soft spot for him. Still in the Rook v Shaw stakes it’s Shaw that’s come through, and now I know all I can see just how much he loves Thierry, to the point of being ready to sacrifice his life. That’s true love.
There’s lots more secrets come out in this final part, lots of the usual magic and danger, the Morrigan is in full danger mode, and Thierry and Mac need to stop her. As ever though the best laid plans go wrong, though in fact its more plans made on the fly and she’s always one step ahead and they fight for time. Shaw is missing and time is running out for him, if Thierry doesn’t find him soon he could die.
Once again its a great read, a series tempered just to my speed, its got the balance perfect for me. Its one I’ll enjoy on a back to back read, so that its all fresh in my mind, though it didn’t take long to pick up from where we left off. Along with the main story of Morrigan v The World there are numerous sub plot, Mable and the honey, Thierry and Shaw, Rook and his sister, and of course what’s going on with Mac and Thierry’s mum….it’s been a really fun series, one that’s easy to follow and read yet had enough depth and interest to keep me gripped to page ( or kindle anyway!!)
the only issue I had was when Thierry was first back in Faery, it seemed to drag a little when she was closing the tethers, but that a minor point.
Stars: Five, a cracking finish
