Delayed Penalty, A Pilots Hockey Novel, Sophia Henry

Delayed Penalty, A Pilots Hockey Novel,  Sophia Henry
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre:  Romance,
Well, I’m a huge Sawyer Bennet fan ( though of course haven’t loved every book, and I mean huge in the fan sense o not the physical!!) so wanted to read this. I’m not sure the comparison is accurate though….I can’t see much in common other than the romance trope. Still, it was a fun, light read and I enjoyed it.
What I hadn’t expected was that both main characters would be only 20. I thought Auden would be around that age, but expected Aleksandr to be a bit older – no reason, but I was surprised to find he’s also only 20.
They start off badly, with Auden assuming he’d be a typical jock jerk type when she interacts with him on a night out. Then she’s shocked when she finds out he’s her first client – she likes the earnings she gets translating, needs them now her scholarship is gone, so she has to show her grandfather she can do a good job. Time to pull on the Big Girl knickers and suck it up. Aleksandr is drawn to her, and they seem to keep meeting up and slowly she learns he’s not the person she thought, he’s someone she grows to love. Of course once that happens you just know its not going to go smoothly for them, especially when she’s at school and he could get sent to another team any time.
They’ve both got a difficult past, have problems arising from it and find it hard to trust, but in each other they’ve found someone who could be their future if only they can get past their issues. Its tough, and sadly there are barriers and people that could prevent them keeping the love they’ve found. They need to be strong and find that trust to work past them.
I enjoyed this read, didn’t love it but it was fun, with real people and actions. I so felt for both of them in their sad backgrounds. There were some things that grated a little, times when they acted strangely ( IMO) and I really didn’t understand why the need to change Jason’s role from friendly cop to more…it didn’t add to the story. Maybe its just to link him to the group in a future one? Dunno, but I was waiting for something to develop there that didn’t happen….
Its a “clean” read for those who don’t want graphic sex, there’s nothing more explicit than a couple of intense make-out sessions. that’s important for many people and often hard to find. Personally I like both sorts so long as the story is solid, but some readers get really upset about sex in a story.
Stars: Three. a light sweet read.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
