Hot Chocolate, Charlotte De Pace
Well, a real mouth-watering read for chocolate lovers! The descriptions of some of them sounded wonderful, and I love almond/hazel nut pastes so would adore to try some of these, especially mixed with that bitter dark chocolate described.
Annabella, she was great, confident outwardly but internally shaking in her boots at the deception she was forced into, and the secret she held. Her sister needed her to do this though, and she owed her so much, she’d do anything for her. Alessandro – sorry I just can’t call him Ale – all I can think of his mild or bitter when it comes to ale, pale ale, stuff like that. Its a UK pub drink not a name of a heart breaker! He’s Alessandro to me…a gorgeous, sexy man, who was dogmatic when push came to shove with Annabella. He held secrets too and for good reasons but he gave himself a free pass while judging Annabella.
It was a fun lead up to the big reveal and that part was done with maximum splash. I do like my downtimes to be dragged out, to get maximum grief time and Charlotte did that part well. It makes the final get together so much better for me. I felt much of the middle though, the bit between Annabella’s interview and the final competition and what followed seemed a bit superficial. There were things happening that could have been high drama but just seemed to be glossed over.
Overall, it was a good read, one I enjoyed, light and fluffy for a summer break, but not one to join the re-readers for me.
Stars: Four, a good read but a little superficial feeling at times for me
