Genre:  Romance,

I loved Tina’s The Real Thing, and looked forward to reading this. I loved the setting, all things music at Nashville but the story was just too “cute” somehow, a sweet read, a HEA which I love but it lacked the drama and passions of The Real Thing I felt.
I do need drama, things to go wrong, to feel that there’s a real chance the couple won’t make it even when I know of course that they will….I enjoyed how Gillian had followed her dream (along with many, many others), loved that she made a mistake in her first meeting, who hasn’t done that. Tried to dress to impress and felt like they were wearing someone else skin. She was so nervous though I found it hard to belive she’d really forget her guitar…that just felt wrong to me. The clothes and makeup I understood but no way would she not bring her instrument. Still, from there on things went well for her.

I wanted to give her a smack and tell her to grow up when she got upset with Will over something she really should have seen coming. Its the point where there could have been some real drama, and yet it just felt forced to me, as though she was acting in a way that wasn’t natural to her. She really wouldn’t risk everything over something that was so trivial in the grand scheme of things I belive, would have manned up and gone after what she’d planned for so long. I think Momma would have put her foot down too and said “enough now, act like an adult” .

Its an enjoyable read, I did like Gillian and Will, and loved Gillian’s Momma, but overall it was just that bit too sweet and gentle for me to rate a four or five. A good story, one that many will adore, but for those that need some angst and drama like me its one that lacks it.

Stars: three, a fun, but light read.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
