Edge of Glory, Magan Vernon

Edge of Glory,  Magan Vernon

Genre:  Romance, New Adult

I was really looking forward to this as I five star loved Magan’s The Only One but…its a perfect example of how loving one of an authors stories doesn’t mean they’ll all work for you.

This one just irritated me 😦 I can see others loved it, great, but for me the characters were just too too juvenile. Lia is nearly 20, not sure how old Jay is but I’d assumed he’d be around 24-25, but they feel  like early teens, both in speech and actions.
There’s the issue with the other people Lia knows from school, who talk and she reacts as if they were still in high school. ( Here in UK high school ends at 16 and by 19-20 you’re considered an adult) I know Lia’s parents are over protective, but I don’t understand why she just went along with it, hid that she was meeting Jay. The “dates” they went on too were reminiscent of the kind of thing we were doing at about 14, and it just made for a book I found impossible to connect with, and abandoned about a third of the way in.

There’s too many books I do want to read, have enjoyed such as The Only One, to waste on something that I’m not enjoying.
It didn’t work for me, but others love it and that’s how reading works, one man’s meat is another man’s poison ( or Woman as the case may be!!)

Stars: Two, one that just didn’t do it for me.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
