Black Christmas ~ JC Andrijeski From the anthology Red Hot Holidays.

Black Christmas ~ JC Andrijeski  From the anthology Red Hot Holidays.

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy

Another bargain book bundle and availablke to preorder now. These are a great way of trying new authors at a price thats good value. Even better all these stories are new, written for this anthology.

I’ve really enjoyed books one and two in JC Andrijeski’s new series Quentin Black Mysteries. ( Black in White and Black as Night). He’s a Seer, and met and employed Miri in the first book. In book two he and Miri are in Bangkok when she’s the victim of another seer and undergoes the most traumatic time. We meet her now just after that, and she’s staying with Black, he’s ultra protective and careful with her after what she’s been through. He seems to feel such guilt over it but she doesn’t blame him, she doesn’t really think about it or anything, she’s just in a kind of blank fog. Its only been a few days back in the States though and he leaves, again, and with only a few hours notice. Miri undergoes a kind of shut down then, blanks everything. I so felt for her, she needed Black. Her friends and ex-work colleagues Nick and Angel are worried for her, but nothing really seems to get through. Black is desperate, she ignores his calls, doesn’t open the gifts he’s been sending, and even moves out of his apartment.

I really felt for them both, Miri needs him there and he’s…well, not there. That’s it. Yet Black is so fixed on her, so wants to be with her I just feel that it must have been something incredibly important to pull him away when he knows he needs her and she him. What though? And will Miri eventually understand? Even though they’re apart its still a very emotional story, and I was just as desperate as Black for Miri to understand, to keep in contact, still want him. He’s an odd man in many ways, but then he’s Seer, older by far and of course their ways are so very different. Its a new world to Miri, she’s still feeling her way in it and drawn though she is to Black she’s still learning so much, and after the traumas she’s been through no wonder she’s feeling fragile and abandoned. their romance seems to take two steps forward and one back all the while, and just when I think there’s some progress something else happens. Can they find their way past this setback?

Stars: Five, its a short read, and usually I don’t do these but it just feels to me like an extra, separate chapter from the last novel. A kind of epilogue.

All Night Long, Black Halo 1, Madelynne Ellis

All Night Long (Black Halo, Book 1)

All Night Long, Black Halo 1, Madelynne Ellis
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
though this is a stand alone novel, it’s connected with two others Come Undone which features Xane from the band Black Halo and Daniella, a fan of the band and Anything But Vanilla where the island owners are friends of his and it becomes a refuge. This novel is similar to Come Undone but features Daniella’s friend Ginny and band member Ash, with smaller parts with other band members. It takes place mainly over the night of the big split, and the morning after. There’s sex, lots of it and at times involving all three men with Ginny. She’s a little more adventurous than flat mate Daniella! Ash finds Ginny tantalising, and she seems to bring out a different side of him. She’s prepared to give her No Relationships stance a rest by the next morning, maybe… feeling she and Ash have some kind of connection…but will he go for it? He’s renowned for his 3-4 or more girls a night, and does he want to change that?
Well, again a book to love. People who show they are more than just their image, tender moments interspersed with hot sex, and another side to the story that began with Come Undone. Its a great read with a real story, personalities to empathise with and that balance perfectly with the mix of sensuality in the novel. I need that balance of story first sex second, too many “erotic” books are just focussed on plenty of sex but no actual plot, nothing to carry the sex and put it into perspective, that does nothing for me, I need a good story. I’m really enjoying this series and look forward to more.
Stars: four and a half, really looking forward to what comes next. Other band members as individuals or – and I hope its this – more about what comes after the split, and the disaster that unfolded right at the end of Come Undone. This book was great but I need to know more…..

Rocked, Lost in Oblivion Series book one, Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott.

Rocked (Lost in Oblivion)

Rocked, Lost in Oblivion Series book one, Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott.
Review from Jeannie Zelos book review.

I loved the prequel to this series, Seduced, and though this book can be read as a standalone I think readers will understand the band dynamics better if they’ve first read Seduced. It explains so much about how they started and the problems they faced.
Anyway – Its Deak, Deacon, in this book who’s main character. He’s always the steady man of the band, the sensible one who checks contracts, liaises with promoters, finds them places to play. At the start of this book they’ve just been signed up for a tour, as the opening band for another group, and the promoters have given them a manager Gordo, who takes over all the things Deacon used to do. He’s still the peacemaker in the band though, the glue that holds them together and Mr Dependable. He’s feeling frustrated at losing his mediator role to Gordo and using punishing workouts to get rid of his excess energy. At 6ft 5on the extra muscles he’s gained make him one Big Boy. He doesn’t really get into the girls/groupie thing as the others do, but when he sees Harper, new chef with Food Riot he’s entranced. She’s a hold on his psyche right from the start, but she’s aloof, polite but distant. Brought up on the road since she was 12 with her roadie parents she’s seen and done the musician scene, and is now concentrating on her career. Deacon eventually wears her down though, and they embark on a sensual, heady, torrid romance. The tour is for six weeks though, and she’s so determined that will be the end for them, as she could be working anywhere at the drop of a hat. Deacon though feels she’s his Forever person, and tries to get her to see they could be so much more than just a fling, but with two opposing careers, meaning time on the road in different places it’s a tough job.
Its a fabulous read, I felt I was there on the road with the band, twittering, scavenger hunting, watching the gigs, and it was so real to me. I loved that we saw the niggles, the little bits as well as the overall picture. That we really got to know the band members, warts and all. When things began to go wrong – wow I was shocked! How could that happen…but it made for a great drama in the book, and all good romances need drama and hiccups to be interesting, not just happy, happy, happy.
Its a terrific realistic read, and long – hurrah! Its priced at just 99p for a massive 474 pages, well worth a punt. I look forward to more from the band.
Stars: Five, has to be 🙂
